Club Deportivo – The Thousand Sponsors: Supported By True Fans

Club Deportivo The Thousand Sponsors

Most football sponsorship is reserved for a handful of major brands with deep pockets.

But for smaller clubs facing financial difficulties, there are thousands of fans, local businesses, and supporters who would love to contribute if sponsorship were accessible and affordable.

To help fund its return to the top flight, Peruvian club Deportivo Municipal launched “The Muni’s Thousand Sponsors.” Instead of selling a few large sponsorship packages, the club redesigned its jersey with a pixelated grid made up of hundreds of small black-and-white squares, creating space for up to 1,000 individual sponsors. Every square became a potential advertising spot, turning the shirt into a crowdfunding platform.

The club unveiled the new kit featuring its iconic red sash layered over the grid of sponsor spaces and opened registrations for businesses and supporters interested in participating. Each sponsor could purchase a small place on the jersey, receiving visibility and partnership benefits while helping finance the club’s sporting ambitions.

The initiative transformed sponsorship from an exclusive marketing asset into a collective movement. By democratizing access to the club jersey, Deportivo Municipal created a scalable fundraising model that generated attention, engaged supporters, and opened a new revenue stream to support its goal of returning to Peru’s first division after consecutive relegations caused by financial difficulties.
